American Idol has a six year winning streak on the line.   It hasn’t lost a single half hour to any of its competition since 2004.

By airing a rerun of NCIS tonight at 8pm, CBS has deprived us of a potentially epic battle of the broadcasters at 8pm, at least in terms of overall viewers.  Last week at 8pm between ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC over 60 million were watching, and that’s without the Olympics.

Last week American Idol averaged 27.74 million viewers and a 10.1 rating with adults 18-49 in the overnight numbers, and last night at 8pm NBC had 26.3 million and a 7.3 rating with adults 18-49.

What happens tonight?  Unlike last week,  Idol will be a two hour edition tonight, so it should be interesting to see how it shakes out.  Who’ll do better, NBC or FOX?
