Deadline.com’s Nellie Andreeva has an updated post on questions surrounding renewal fates of bubble shows. She looks at a lot of stuff from CBS’s half hour comedies, including whether New Adventures of Old Christine could move to ABC if CBS doesn’t pick it up, and also has good insight on whether ABC would pick up Ghost Whisperer if CBS didn’t (she likes Ghost Whisperer’s chances.)
She also thinks its possible that both One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected could get partial orders.
And of course, what would any bubble show prognosis be without Chuck? Andreeva believes Chuck’s prospects are so good, that if it gets solid ratings Monday night, it could be renewed early:
Last year, NBC’s Chuck got an 11th hour reprieve, clinching a partial third-season order on Sunday afternoon before upfront week. This time around, its fate will be decided earlier if the show’s producers get their way. Several days ago, creators Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak pitched NBC their vision for Season 4 and producing studio Warner Bros. asked the network for a quick resolution so the series could keep its writing staff. Even with NBC brass happy with their drama development, the spy dramedy’s chances of renewal are considered very good, a lot better than were last year when a sponsorship deal with Subway sealed the renewal. With the show rising in the ratings this week and fans staging rallies tomorrow, Chuck may be one solid ratings performance tomorrow night away from an early renewal.
With only two weeks until NBC makes its announcements anyway, I’m not expecting an early renewal announcement. We’ll see.
