Update: more updated overnight results including viewer totals and demographics is now available.

With the disclaimer that these preliminary metered market numbers can be pretty meaningless compared to the demographics that come out in a bit…

ABC had a nice night with the preliminary metered market  household rating for Dancing with the Stars up 37%, and Castle up 33% vs. last year’s premiere Monday. (8.0 household rating vs. 6.0).

Chuck started around where it finished last year (a 3.8 household rating — do not confuse these with 18-49 demographic which will come later).  The Event nearly doubled Chuck with a 7.5 household rating in the metered markets.  Chase dropped down to a 4.8 at 10pm.  But that’s better than the news at FOX where House was down 14% vs. the first hour of last year’s two hour premiere to a 7.4.  Again, we have to wait for the demos, because these metered market numbers can be deceiving.   On the other hand, the somewhat widely praised Lone Star didn’t get out of the gate well scoring a mere 2.8 household rating.  While these numbers can be deceiving, they probably can’t be that deceiving and that’s a pretty bad sign.

The news looks better at CBS where the metered market results were all up vs. last year except Rules of Engagement being down 5% vs. the premiere of Accidentally on PurposeHawaii Five-0 was up 5% vs. last year’s premiere of CSI: Miami to a 9.8 rating.   Again, we need to take a wait and see approach, because it’s the demos that matter. We should see those demos (and the viewer numbers) arounde ~11:30a ET and post soon after.  Check back…
