We get some questions about the numbers for Showtime’s Nurse Jackie and and Weeds, and though some of our readers are kind enough to post them in the comments of the weekly cable ratings posts (thanks!),  a lot of the people who are looking for the info can’t find it.

According to Multichannel News Monday night’s (August 3, 2009) airing of Weeds averaged 1.61 million viewers besting its season 5 opener.   Nurse Jackie averaged 1.36 million, a new series high surpassing the June debut that averaged 1.35 million.

While not in the ballpark of HBO’s True Blood, which set series highs on Sunday night with 4.3 million viewers (or even in the ballpark of Hung and Entourage) these are decent numbers for Showtime which has far fewer subscribers than HBO.   Showtime was so confident about Nurse Jackie it renewed it for a second season before it had even aired its second episode.

Update: see the comments below, the numbers cited above via MultiChannel News are actually the combination of the first two airings, and not just the initial airing.  For example, the Nurse Jackie premiere that averaged 1.35M was the average of both airings the first night.  The initial airing drew only ~1M.
