The Live Feed is reporting that Treme has been renewed by HBO for a second season after just one episode, and a modestly rated (and that’s charitable) episode at at that.

the show just premiered Sunday night to 1.4 million viewers in its combined airings. By comparison, the final season of modestly rated “The Wire” averaged 890,000 for premiere episodes.

Admittedly, the normal rules of ratings and renewals don’t apply to premium networks like HBO which care about hooking subscribers to keep them subscribing (and, of  course, attracting more subscribers), but I wonder how much hooking a show viewed by a combined 1.4 million will be doing.
