“The Orville,” the first new broadcast series of the fall to premiere, got off to a decent start for FOX Sunday night.

Seth MacFarlane’s sci-fi series delivered a 2.3 rating among adults 18-49 and 7.32 million viewers. The show aired immediately after FOX’s late-afternoon NFL game and “The OT” in all time zones, and it had an 8 p.m. PT replay that will count as part of its final ratings, so it may adjust up. The 2.3 is on par with the debut of “Son of Zorn” (2.4) the same weekend last year.

After suffering a decline for its NFL kickoff game on Thursday, NBC’s first “Sunday Night Football” telecast is up year to year, pending updates. The primetime portion of the game averaged 21.56 million viewers and an 8.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic, compared to 20.65 million and 7.5 a year ago.

Elsewhere, ABC’s broadcast of the Miss America competition (1.2) was off a tenth of a point vs. last year. “Big Brother” (1.9) was up 0.2 vs. the previous week’s 1.7.

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings are available at approximately 11 a.m. ET the day after telecast. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns.

Time Shifted Viewing:
 Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live +Same-Day and Live +7 Day. Time-shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+SD includes viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3 a.m. local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live +7 ratings include  viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
