It was a relatively slow night for broadcast TV fare, with no single program in particular outperforming its competition.
The strongest airing of the night came from ABC’s “20/20,” which picked up a 0.6 rating in adults 18-49 with 3.66 million viewers. This was a match with its performance from two weeks ago, the last time the investigative journalism series debuted a new episode. Leading into “20/20” was “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” which itself was down from 0.5 to 0.4.
The network with the highest average for the night, on the other hand, was NBC. All it took to achieve this status was a 0.6 rating for “American Ninja Warrior,” the top performer in its hour, and an additional 0.6 for “Dateline.” The latter was a hair beneath the 0.7 it rated last week.
FOX’s sole outing was the 2019 U.S. Open Golf Tournament, which won over 2.29 million viewers across its three-hour run and grabbed a 0.4 rating. This was on par with its performance last year at this time, narrowly outpacing its past 1.61 million viewership.
On CBS, “Whistleblower” was down slightly week-to-week, with a 0.3 compared to 0.4. The CW had a fairly ordinary night, with new episodes of “Masters of Illusion” and “The Big Stage” each at 0.2. “The Big Stage” did, however, manage to outpace the 0.1 it premiered at.
Network averages:
NBC | ABC | FOX | CBS | CW | |
Adults 18-49 rating/share | 0.6/4 | 0.5/3 | 0.4/3 | 0.3/2 | 0.2/1 |
Total Viewers (millions) | 2.95 | 3.18 | 2.29 | 3.56 | 1.01 |
Late-night metered market ratings to come.
Definitions:
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings are available at approximately 11 a.m. ET the day after telecast. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time.
Time Shifted Viewing: Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live +Same-Day and Live +7 Day. Time-shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+SD includes viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3 a.m. local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live +7 ratings include viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
