“Big Brother” continued its winning streak Sunday night, despite facing heavier competition than normal in the primetime ratings.

Once again, the CBS reality-competition series led the night’s ratings with a 1.3 rating in adults 18-49, up one-tenth from its 1.2 last Sunday and tying its current season high in the demo. “Big Brother’s” 5.04 million viewer audience last night marks a new season high in viewers for the series as well.

The recently-canceled “Instinct” followed it at 9 p.m. by similarly ticking up from its previous 0.3 to a 0.5. Its follow-up episode at 10 p.m. posted a 0.3, however, which was more in line with the drama’s performance this summer. A late-afternoon NFL overrun may have boosted CBS’ ratings for the night though, so check back tomorrow to see how the network’s performance adjusts in the finals.

Meanwhile, FOX’s broadcast of the NFL preseason game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Minnesota Vikings came second in the night, averaging a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 with 4.36 million viewers, pending updates. In addition to a pair of “Last Man Standing” reruns in the 7 p.m. hour, the NFL broadcast carried FOX to the night’s overall demo win.

On ABC, “Celebrity Family Feud” returned from 2 weeks off with a 0.8, matching its last outing. The same could not be said for “The $100,000 Pyramid” (0.7) and “To Tell the Truth” (0.5), as each show fell a tenth or two from their ratings a week ago and hit new season lows in the 18-49 demo.

Elsewhere, NBC and the CW both took the entire night off, airing only repeats.

Network averages:

: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings are available at approximately 11 a.m. ET the day after telecast. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns.
Share (of Audience):
The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time.
Time Shifted Viewing:
Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live +Same-Day and Live +7 Day. Time-shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+SD includes viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3 a.m. local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live +7 ratings include  viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
