The season premiere of ABC’s “American Idol” easily led the Sunday primetime ratings in the adults 18-49 demo, scoring a 1.7 average rating with 8.63 million viewers. It beat the rest of the night’s broadcasts by at least six-tenths, but was down from its season premiere’s 2.3 rating and 10.48 million viewers in 2018.

“Idol” was, however, in line with its previous season’s Sunday night average last year. Its lead-in, “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” climbed up from a 0.8 to a 1.1, while “Shark Tank” rounded out the night for the network with a solid 0.9.

Elsewhere, it was a night of premieres for NBC as well. “World of Dance” made its 2-hour time-period premiere at 8 p.m., and posted a 1.0 with 4.17 million viewers, down from the 1.4 and 6.26 million viewers it had scored with its post-“Voice” premiere last Tuesday night.

“World of Dance” led into the season 2 premiere of “Good Girls” at 10 p.m., which grabbed a 0.7 with 2.77 million viewers, down from its first season’s 1.0 average and marking a new all-time low in the demo for the series.

CBS’ “60 Minutes” posted a 1.0, up two-tenths week-to-week, while “God Friended Me” (0.7) and “NCIS: Los Angeles” (0.9) each rebounded one to two-tenths from their previous episodes. “Madam Secretary” similarly ticked back up from a 0.4 to a 0.6.

On FOX, “The Simpsons” stayed steady with another 0.9, but the same could not be said for “Bob’s Burgers” (0.8) and “Family Guy” (0.8), both of which fell one-tenth. The CW’s “Supergirl” returned with a 0.4, up 0.1 from its last episode, as was “Charmed” (0.3).

: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings are available at approximately 11 a.m. ET the day after telecast. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns.
Share (of Audience):
The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time.
Time Shifted Viewing:
Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live +Same-Day and Live +7 Day. Time-shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+SD includes viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3 a.m. local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live +7 ratings include  viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
