Barring the possibility of certain adjustments, NBC’s NFL Football broadcast drew some astonishing numbers.

Starting with the NFL Kickoff/Prekick, NBC opened the night with a 5.0 rating in adults 18-49, with the kickoff event alone drawing 17.09 million viewers. This then led into the main event of the night, as the Green Bay Packers played the Chicago Bears for a 6.4 average across several hours. Combined with its 20.20 million-strong viewership, this was on near-even footing with the Atlanta Falcons vs. Philadelphia Eagles game at the same time last year; that event posted a 6.7, just 0.3 higher than last night’s game.

The rest of the night’s programming was overshadowed dramatically by the NFL. On CBS, “Big Brother” scored a 1.0 rating, building on the 0.9 it scored in last week’s final. A pair of back-to-back reruns of “Young Sheldon,” meanwhile, each grabbed 0.5’s, and an “FBI” rerun was a tick lower at 0.4.

On FOX, “Spin the Wheel” aired a two-hour finale which peaked at a 0.5 and averaged 2.21 million viewers. This was up two-tenths of a point from the 0.3 it scored previously. ABC aired “The LEGO Movie” for a 0.4, and followed it up with “Reef Break” at 0.3, a bit higher than the 0.2 of its last final.

Finally, the CW had a night without surprises. Both “The Outpost” and “Two Sentence Horror Stories” managed to accumulate 0.1’s, keeping directly in-line with their finals from last week.

Network averages:

Adults 18-49 rating/share 6.2/28 0.6/3 0.5/2 0.3/2 0.1/1
Total Viewers (millions) 19.56 3.72 2.20 1.52 0.62

Late-night metered market ratings to come.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings are available at approximately 11 a.m. ET the day after telecast. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns.
Share (of Audience):
The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time.
Time Shifted Viewing:
Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live +Same-Day and Live +7 Day. Time-shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+SD includes viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3 a.m. local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live +7 ratings include  viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
