The CMA Awards carried ABC to a dominant primetime ratings victory Wednesday night.
The network’s 3-hour broadcast of the annual country music awards show easily topped the night, averaging a 2.0 rating in the adults 18-49 demo and 11.27 million viewers. While the show’s 2.0 rating is down a tenth from its 2.1 last year, and marks a new all-time low in the demo for the CMAs, last night’s broadcast is also up in viewers from the 2018 show’s 10.1 million viewer audience.
Elsewhere, the presence of the CMAs resulted in some unfortunate downticks for FOX. “The Masked Singer” dropped from the 2.0 it scored last week to a series low 1.6 rating, while “Almost Family” returned from a 3-week break with its first-ever 0.5, down a tenth from its last episode’s 0.6.
On CBS, “Survivor” experienced a similar ratings hit week-to-week, with its 2-hour broadcast last night averaging a 1.1 rating with 6.04 million viewers, down from its 1.3 and 6.82 million viewers last Wednesday. At 10 p.m., “S.W.A.T.,” however, stayed even with another 0.5.
NBC was one of the night’s only networks to remain relatively steady, as “Chicago Med” (1.1), “Chicago Fire” (1.1), and “Chicago P.D.” (1.0) all matched their ratings from a week ago. “Med” also raked in the second-largest audience of the night (7.37 million viewers).
Rounding out the night, the CW’s “Riverdale” (0.3) ticked up one-tenth from its last outing, as did “Nancy Drew” (0.2).

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings are available at approximately 11 a.m. ET the day after telecast. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time.
Time Shifted Viewing: Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live +Same-Day and Live +7 Day. Time-shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+SD includes viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3 a.m. local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live +7 ratings include viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.
