There was good news and bad news for Comedy Central in Wednesday’s cable ratings.

The bad news is that “South Park” began its new season with numbers somewhat behind last season’s premiere: The show scored a 1.0 rating in adults 18-49 (vs. 1.3 a year ago) and 1.68 million viewers (vs. 2.17 million.)

The good news is that “South Park” was still the night’s top original cable show in adults 18-49. Furthermore, the Season 4 premiere of “Broad City” (0.5, 879,000 viewers) improved on its third-season debut by 18 percent in the 18-49 demographic and 14 percent in viewers.

Elsewhere, “The Sinner” (0.5) was off a tenth of a point vs. last week for USA, but “Suits” rose a tenth to 0.5. “Black Ink Crew: Chicago” held steady at 0.6 on VH1, as did “Greenleaf” (0.4) on OWN.
