The premiere of “American Horror Story: 1984” was a force of destruction in the midst of Wednesday’s cable ratings.

The FX drama returned to the air with a 1.0 rating in adults 18-49, doubling the score of its closest competition but failing to live up to the 1.5 “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” premiered at. Trailing behind was last week’s champion, “Basketball Wives,” with a steady 0.5 on VH1. “Black Ink Crew” on the same network rounded out the top 3 as it rose from 0.4 back to its usual 0.5.

Just outside the upper section of the chart, USA’s “WWE NXT” brought in a 0.4, as “The Challenge: War of the Worlds 2” did the same for MTV, losing one-tenth of a point week-to-week. The final VH1 entry for the night, “Black Ink Crew Compton,” held the line at 0.3, where it found itself in the company of recurring scores from “Forged in Fire” on History and “Property Brothers” on HGTV. A reunion episode of “Married at First Sight” on Lifetime brought the series back from 0.4 to 0.3, while “House Hunters” on HGTV ticked up from 0.2 to 0.3.

“House Hunters International” stood at the forefront of the night’s 0.2’s, once more ending up in the company of “Expedition Unknown” on Discovery, “The Real Housewives of Dallas” on Bravo, “Ghost Hunters” on A&E, and “Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda” on Investigation Discovery. Meanwhile, “Guy’s Grocery Games” had a rare slip from 0.3 to 0.2 on Food Network, and “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” remained at 0.2 on TBS.
