CBS News Marketing Takes Emmy for “Outstanding Promotional Announcement”

CBS News collected the most statuettes among the big broadcast networks at last night’s News and Documentary Emmy Awards with seven, including the most for a network news magazine (3) and the most for a network evening newscast (3).

CBS News Marketing also won last night, taking the Emmy for “Outstanding Promotional Announcement” for its 60-second promo, “60 MINUTES in 60 Seconds.”

“I’m delighted to see the superb work of the recipients honored and proud of the entire CBS News Division for its continued recognition as the best in the industry,” said CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus. “I’m also pleased that the CBS News Marketing team has been acknowledged for their exceptional promotional efforts.”

60 MINUTES was honored for “Outstanding Interview” for “Saving Flight 1549,” the interview with “Miracle on the Hudson” pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger. “War in Pakistan,” a report on insurgent Islamic militants in the nuclear-armed country, won “Outstanding Continuing Coverage of a News Story in a News Magazine,” and the story of an Ohio town hard hit by the pullout of its largest employer, “The Winter of Our Hardship,” was deemed “Best Report in a News Magazine.”

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH KATIE Couric won for the second year in a row in the “Outstanding Investigative Journalism in a Regularly Scheduled Newscast” category. This year it was the two-part series “Rape in America: Justice Denied” that won, an investigation that discovered 20,000 un-analyzed rape kits. The broadcast also took the Emmy for “Outstanding Business and Economic Reporting in a Regularly Scheduled Newscast” for “Financial Family Tree,” a look at the recession’s ripple effects. “The Battle of Wanat,” a harsh look at the American strategy of “economy of force” that left soldiers overexposed in an Afghanistan battle, won “Best Story in a Regularly Scheduled Newscast.”
