“World News with Diane Sawyer” Draws Second Most Watched Week in Nearly a Year

ABC Narrows Demo Gap with NBC by 6% Year-to-Year

For the week of January 03, 2010, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 8.42 million Total Viewers and a 1.8 rating/7 share/2.30 million among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.  Retaining 96% of the previous week’s season-high audience, “World News” drew its 2nd largest weekly audience of the season. In fact, it was the ABC program’s 2nd most-watched week in nearly 1 year – since w/o 02/08/10.

“World News” shrank the margin of “NBC Nightly News” versus the same week last year by 6% in Adults 25-54. In fact, ABC narrowed the gap with NBC in the key adult news demo in 5 of the last 6 weeks.

“World News” outperformed “CBS Evening News” by 2.09 million viewers and by 380,000 Adults 25-54.

Last week on “World News,” Diane Sawyer sat down with ten freshman Republican lawmakers to discuss their vision for the country and how they plan to follow through on the promises that brought them to Washington. Sawyer anchored the broadcast from Washington on Tuesday.
