“World News with Diane Sawyer” Narrows Total Viewing and Demo Gaps with NBC by Double Digits Both Week-to-Week and Year-to-Year

“World News” Outperforms CBS by 2.42 Million Total Viewers and 460,000 Adults 25-54

For the week of February 7, 2011, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 8.83 million Total Viewers and a 2.0 rating/7 share/2.43 million among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.  

“World News” shrank its margins with “NBC Nightly News” by double-digits versus the prior week and the same week last year in both Total Viewers (-24% and -38%, respectively) and Adults 25-54 (-22% and -24%, respectively).  In fact, “World News” narrowed its year-ago margins with the NBC program in both Nielsen measures for the 4th time in the last 5 weeks.

“World News” outperformed the “CBS Evening News” by 2.42 million viewers and by 460,000 Adults 25-54. “World News” increased its year-ago Total Viewer margin (+8%) over the CBS program for the 5th straight week.

Last week “World News” featured Diane Sawyer’s exclusive interview with former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. This was Rumsfeld’s first television interview since leaving public service in 2006. “World News” continued to closely follow the revolution in Egypt and the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak with reporting from Terry Moran and Jim Sciutto from Cairo.
