“World News with Diane Sawyer” Narrows Weekly Total Viewing and Demo Gaps with NBC by 13%

ABC Grows its Weekly Total Viewing and Demo Advantages over CBS

For the week of November 29, 2010, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 7.97 million Total Viewers and a 1.8 rating/6 share/2.19 million among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. “World News” attracted its 2nd-largest weekly audience of the season. On Tuesday (11/30/10) “World News” turned in its most-watched telecast (8.65 million) in over 8 months – since 3/8/10.

“World News” narrowed the gap with “NBC Nightly News” compared the prior week by 13% in both Total Viewers and Adults 25-54.

World News” outperformed “CBS Evening News” by 1.77 million viewers and by 400,000 Adults 25-54, increasing its week-to-week margins over CBS by 15% in viewers and by 133% in Adults 25-54. This marks ABC’s largest Total Viewing lead over CBS in five weeks.

In addition, compared to the year-ago week (w/o 11/30/09), “World News” increased its Adults 25-54 margin over “CBS Evening News” by 28%, while shrinking the gap with “NBC Nightly News” by 5%.

Last week, “World News” reported on the latest release of classified government documents by Wikileaks and the organization’s founder, Julian Assange. “World News” also covered the release of the report by the President’s deficit reduction commission with reporting by Jake Tapper and David Muir. In addition, Matt Gutman reported on his exclusive trip aboard the U.S. Navy’s deep-ocean research submersible Alvin, where he was given the chance to observe the impact of this summer’s massive oil spill first hand.
