ABC has begun to fill out its lineup of new series for the 2018-19 TV season.
The first of the network’s series pickups came with “The Rookie,” a light crime drama starring Nathan Fillion, in his return to ABC following his work on the long-running “Castle.” The series was originally picked up with a straight-to-series order late last year, but the network had yet to make a formal order for the series since then. Until Wednesday, that is, with “The Rookie” officially joining the network’s roster next season.
In addition to the pickup, ABC has also released the first official image of Nathan Fillion in the series as its lead character, John Nolan, a small-town police officer who decides to take the leap and pursue his dream of being a member of the LAPD. Coming from former “Castle” EP Alexi Hawley, the series will follow John as he is met with skepticism from some of his higher-ups for being the oldest rookie on the force, who see him as nothing more than just a walking midlife crisis. But if he can remain determined and use his key life experience to its fullest, John may still be able to succeed in this newest chapter of his life.
Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Titus Makin, Mercedes Mason, Melissa O’Neil, Afton Williamson, and Eric Winter are all set to star in the series alongside Fillion.
“A Million Little Things” was the second pickup from ABC. Coming from writer and executive producer DJ Nash, the series follows a group of friends from Boston who have bonded through unexpected circumstances. While some have achieved success, and others are struggling in their careers and relationships, they all feel stuck in life. But after one of them dies unexpectedly, the friends realize it’s time for them to stop wasting time and start living again.
David Giuntoli, Ron Livingston, Romany Malco, Allison Miller, Christina Moses, Christina Ochoa, James Roday, Stephanie Szostak, and Lizzy Greene are all set to star in the series.
