AMC renewed “Better Call Saul,” “Fear the Walking Dead,” and “McMafia” for their fifth and second seasons, respectively.

The news comes as part of the network’s appearance at the TCAs summer press tour today. AMC President of Originals David Madden commented on the renewals with the following:

“In an environment where viewer choice is almost unlimited, the success of these shows is especially meaningful, with characters and stories that our viewers connect with and return to season after season. It’s a privilege to continue collaborating with and sharing the vision of the talented creatives behind these series, and we’re excited to start exploring the next chapter in the lives of these unique and complex characters.”

“Better Call Saul” has been a constant critical darling for AMC ever since its premiere, and has been on the receiving end of consistent awards attention as well. Its early renewal comes just ahead of its season 4 premiere, set to air on AMC on August 6. Throughout its third season, the series averaged around a 0.6 live + same day rating in adults 18-49, down three-tenths from the 0.9 average of its second season.

The early renewal for “Fear the Walking Dead” also comes just as the series is set to return for the second-half of its fourth season this coming month, starting August 12. The “Walking Dead” spin-off – which not only featured the recent additions of new characters, but also the loss of some of its few remaining original cast members – has averaged a 0.9 L+SD rating throughout its fourth season up to this point, the same as what its third season had averaged.

Meanwhile, “McMafia” – a British import created by Hossein Amini and James Watkins, inspired by Misha Glenny’s best-selling book of the same name – aired the entirety of its first season on AMC earlier this year. While it only averaged a low 0.1 L+SD rating on the network, AMC doesn’t have to shoulder all of its production and programming costs, which could explain its renewal today.
