CBS has already doubled down on “Big Brother” for 2016, and now it’s extending the franchise’s life for two more years.
The network announced Wednesday at the summer TV press tour that it has renewed the on-air version of “Big Brother” through Season 20 in 2018. Last week CBS also ordered a new season for fall 2016 to stream on CBS All Access.
Ratings for “Big Brother” have remained solid this summer. The Wednesday (1.8 same-day rating), Thursday (1.8) and Sunday (1.7) editions of the show all rank in the Top 10 for the summer in adults 18-49, and they’re all Top 5 shows among adults 18-34.
“Big Brother” premiered in 2000 and has aired every summer since then, with one additional cycle airing in-season during the 2007-08 writers’ strike.
