Showtime’s newest original series, “Billions,” just premiered to some record-breaking numbers for the channel.
Usurping a title previously held by “Ray Donovan,” which managed to bring in 2.91 million viewers for its premiere back in 2013, the drama starring Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis raked in 2.99 million viewers, making it the most successful original series premiere for Showtime yet.
Sampled with Showtime subscribers in advance, “Billions” drew 1.6 million views prior to its launch, while also receiving 1.4 million viewers on its premiere night Sunday (for multiple airings).
“It’s a testament to the timeliness of the subject matter, the power of its stars and the brilliance of the show creators that ‘Billions’ has had such a big start. I can’t wait for our subscribers to experience how this season unfolds,” says Showtime president and CEO David Nevins.
The first season of “Billions” runs for 12 episodes. Critics have been mostly positive on the show.
