The final season of “Bones” is exactly 68 days away.
FOX announced Thursday that the 12th and last season of the series — which will run for 12 episodes — is set to debut at 9 p.m. ET/PT Tuesday, Jan. 3.
The final season will put a bow on the long-running stories of Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel), her husband and crime-solving partner Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) and the team at the Jeffersonian. The network is promising the return of several favorite characters from previous seasons, as well as “an old flame from one of the team’s past.”
“From the very first season, ‘Bones’ was called ‘The Little Engine That Could,'” series creator Hart Hanson says in a statement. “So we could not be prouder of ending up as FOX’s longest-running scripted drama. And we got there because of an insanely loyal, loud, lovely, lively audience.”
The show will take the place of “Scream Queens,” which will have ended its run by then, in FOX’s Tuesday lineup. Assuming the 12 final episodes run in consecutive weeks, the series finale will air in March. It will end with 246 episodes under its belt.
