Good news for all the “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” fans out there.
Netflix has officially renewed the “Riverdale” spin-off series for what it is calling “parts 3 & 4” – consisting of 16 additional episodes – this morning. The news comes less than two months after “Sabrina,” which was picked up with an initial 2-season, 20-episode order, premiered on the streaming service near the end of October.
Production on the new episodes will reportedly begin sometime next year, with the show’s second season set to premiere on April 5, 2019.
The series offers a reimagining of the beloved origin and adventures of Sabrina: the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story, steeped in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. It stars Kiernan Shipka, Ross Lynch, Lucy Davis, Chance Perdomo, Michelle Gomez, Jaz Sinclair, Miranda Otto, and more.
“Praise Satan! I’m so grateful to my partners at Warner Bros., Netflix, Berlanti Television and Archie Productions for supporting this darker vision of the world’s most famous teen witch,” said creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. “And I’m thrilled to be continuing to tell Sabrina’s chilling adventures with our incredible cast and crew, led by the unstoppable Kiernan Shipka.”
Netflix, like all of the other streaming platforms and services, does not release the viewership statistics for its shows, therefore making it impossible to know just how well “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” has done. However, the show has quickly accrued a dedicated fan following for itself, and was welcomed with mostly positive reviews ahead of its premiere.
“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is available to stream now on Netflix.
