The CW rolls out its most heavily anticipated new show of 2016-17 Thursday night in “Riverdale.” It’s a very this-is-not-your-parents’-version-of-it take on the Archie comics, filtered through the lens of the network that brought the world “Gossip Girl.”
It’s also won a fair amount of advance praise from critics and is the subject of a concentrated marketing push to get people to tune in. Teen dramas, once the staple of The CW, have basically been non-existent on the network in the past couple of seasons, since the core characters of “The Vampire Diaries” moved into adulthood. Can “Riverdale” recapture some of that audience, and more to the point here, will its ratings reflect it?
For the season to date, The CW averages a little under a 0.6 rating in adults 18-49 in live + same-day numbers. Only one of its shows, “The Flash,” makes it above the 1.0 mark. Over the long run, “Riverdale” might not get there either, but can the hype push it above that mark for Thursday’s premiere?
We’ll find out in a matter of hours. For now, make your predictions for “Riverdale’s” debut numbers in the poll below, and discuss the show’s longer-term prospects in the comments.
