Roughly four years after “Sons of Anarchy” ended its run on FX, the channel is diving back into that world.
FX on Friday announced a series order for “Mayans MC,” a “Sons of Anarchy” spinoff that follows a different motorcycle club that frequently interacted with SAMCRO on the original series. Season 1 will run for 10 episodes and debut sometime in 2018.
“SoA” creator Kurt Sutter and Elgin James co-created “Mayans MC,” which is set in “a post-Jax Teller world.” It centers on EZ Reyes (JD Pardo), a prospect in a Mayans charter near the California-Mexico border.
“Kurt Sutter is a master storyteller, and ‘Mayans MC’ has the raw energy and intensity that are hallmarks of his signature style,” says Nick Grad, president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions. “Thanks to Kurt, co-creator Elgin James and this amazing cast, ‘Mayans MC’ builds on the legacy of ‘Sons of Anarchy,’ taking it in a thrilling new direction that we can’t wait for the world to see.”
In addition to Pardo, the “Mayans MC” cast includes Edward James Olmos, Sarah Bolger, Clayton Cardenas, Richard Cabral, Michael Irby, Raoul Trujillo, Antonio Jaramillo and Carla Baratta.
Norberto Barba directed the pilot episode and will be an executive producer of the series along with Sutter. James is co-executive producer.
