TBS has ordered a series based on James Corden’s “Drop the Mic” segment from his “Late Late Show.”

“Drop the Mic” is slated to premiere in 2017, and TBS has ordered 16 episodes of the series.

Corden will not be involved in an on-camera capacity, and a host will be announced at a later date. Corden will exec produce with his CBS late-night partner Ben Winston, plus Jensen Karp.

“Drop the Mic” will pit four celebrities against each other in a rap battle. Each week’s winner will be chosen by the studio audience

“‘Drop the Mic’ is such an exciting show, and we can’t wait to begin making it,” Winston says in a statement. “Every time we have done this segment on ‘The Late Late Show,’ it has become a massive viral moment. Now with TBS as our perfect partner, we hope to create some really memorable television.”

The show marks TBS’ first new unscripted series since the arrival ofMichael Bloom, senior vice president of unscripted and special event programming for TBS and TNT.

“James Corden and Ben Winston have struck a nerve with their celebrity-driven, music-infused, incredibly fun content,” Bloom says.“This series embodies the kind of unique and surprising programming we are looking for as we reinvent our approach to this genre within the new TBS brand.”

“Drop the Mic” is the latest of Corden’s “Late Late Show” segments to get the TV series treatment. His wildly popular “Carpool Karaoke” inspired a show, recently bought by Apple.
