The end has arrived for “Lethal Weapon.”

After three seasons, FOX has officially canceled the Damon Wayans-led action series this afternoon. It is the network’s third cancellation of the day, following “The Cool Kids” and “The Passage” this morning, and FOX’s fifth overall scripted cancellation of the season so far.

The news doesn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone who has been paying attention to “Lethal Weapon’s” many troubles throughout the past year.

Last October, Wayans announced that he would be quitting the show once its third season had concluded, and while there was still the possibility of him coming back for another year, Wayans’ return had always seemed unlikely from then on. After already losing the first of of its original stars in Clayne Crawford at the end of its second season too, Wayans’ departure seemed like the final nail in the coffin for “Lethal Weapon.”

The series suffered in the ratings this year as well, falling from its second season’s 0.99 average in the adults 18-49 demo to a 0.71 average – placing it firmly in the bottom half of FOX’s scripted shows in the ratings.

In addition to “Lethal Weapon,” “The Cool Kids,” and “The Passage,” FOX also canceled both “The Gifted” and “REL” several weeks ago. The network’s shows that have already been renewed for 2019-20 though, include “9-1-1,” “The Resident,” “Empire,” “Last Man Standing,” and more, while “Star,” “The Orville,” and “Proven Innocent” are still waiting to find out their fates.
