Making its series premiere on Tuesday, Jan. 26, “Outsiders” has become the most viewed original series in WGN America’s history. The episode raked in 3.9 million viewers in Live +3 ratings, and gathered a total of 5.5 million viewers during its premiere week, counting encore episodes.
The series is the network’s third original drama series, joining “Salem” and “Manhattan.” The channel also has the upcoming “Underground” premiering in March.
“We felt that ‘Outsiders’ was exceptional, but there is no greater validation than this kind of viewer response. We’re grateful for the stellar cast and creative team, Peter Mattei, Peter Tolan and Paul Giamatti, and our producing partners at Sony Pictures Television, and we thank the fans, who continue to inspire us to deliver one-of-a-kind storytelling at WGN America,” Matt Cherniss, president and general manager of WGN America and Tribune Studios, says. (TV by the Numbers and WGNA are both part of Tribune Media.)
The series is comprised of 13 one-hour long episodes throughout its first season, set in the Appalachian hills and following a powerful family native to the area that will do anything to defend themselves and their territory from the town below and any challengers that may arise.
“Outsiders” airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on WGN America.
