It’s one and done for “Proven Innocent.”
After airing just one season on the network, the freshman legal drama has officially been canceled by FOX. The news comes just after the airing of the show’s first season finale Friday night, which will now act as a series finale.
Cancellation has been the most likely fate for “Proven Innocent” ever since it made its premiere on FOX earlier this year. The rookie series averaged a low 0.4 live + same day rating in the adults 18-49 demo, making it FOX’s lowest-rated scripted show of the season.
Even with the little bit of ratings leeway that all Friday night shows are given, that low of a ratings performance meant things just weren’t looking good for “Proven Innocent” from the very beginning.
“Proven Innocent” marks FOX’s seventh scripted cancellation of the season, joining “The Gifted,” “REL,” “Lethal Weapon,” “The Passage,” “The Cool Kids,” and “Star” on the network’s list of shows that will not be returning for the 2019-20 season.
Like most of the other networks, FOX has taken great strides this week towards a finished 2019-20 programming lineup, with a slew of renewals and cancellations the past few days, along with the pickup of several new shows for the season.
“The Orville” is the only scripted series still waiting on a decision from FOX, which is expected to arrive sometime soon.
