“The Carmichael Show” was absent from NBC’s announcement of its 2016-17 fall schedule on Sunday. That doesn’t mean, however, that it won’t return next season.

NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt told reporters on a conference call that the network and 20th Century Fox TV are still working on a contract for a possible third season.

“I was hoping we’d have [a deal done] by now,” Greenblatt says. “We’re just going back and forth about the number of episodes, honestly. We haven’t come to terms on that, but hopefully we will. I don’t know if it’s going to be immediately or in the next couple of days, but hopefully we’ll resolve it soon.”

Greenblatt declines comment on how many episodes each side wants, although he acknowledges that 20th Century Fox would like more than NBC.

“We’re looking at a very robust schedule with a lot of new shows, and we’re trying to fit everything in there and agree on a number of episodes that works for everyone.”
