“The Exorcist” is done after two seasons on FOX.
The show, based on the 1970s novel and classic horror film, suffered sizable ratings declines in its second run last fall and wound up as FOX’s lowest-rated series this season (and in the bottom 5 of any scripted show on the Big 4 networks).
It averaged a 0.4 rating among adults 18-49 and 1.32 million viewers on the night it aired. Delayed viewing didn’t help a lot, moving the numbers up to 0.6 and 1.94 million.
The show had an anthology format, with Ben Daniels and Alfonso Herrera returning from Season 1 as priests who search out and try to rid the world of evil. The Season 2 cast also included Kurt Egyiawan, John Cho, Zuleikha Robinson, Brianna Hildebrand and Li Jun Li.
“The Exorcist” is the fifth show from 2017-18 FOX has canceled so far, joining “Lucifer,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “The Last Man on Earth” and “The Mick.”
