One of TV’s most adventurous fantasy series will live on for another season.

Announced Wednesday afternoon, SyFy has officially renewed “The Magicians” for a fourth season. Based on the series of novels of the same name by Lev Grossman, “The Magicians” follows a group of 20-something friends when they are recruited by a secretive academy, only to discover that the magic they thought was fictional as children is in all actuality, very real and much more dangerous than they could ever comprehend.

But as they struggle to balance both the fun of using their magical abilities with the responsibilities that come with them, the group of friends are forced to fight off evil enemies and creatures, who threaten to destroy everything they’ve come to know and love about the magical world. The series stars Jason Ralph, Stella Maeve, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta, Summer Bishil, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Jade Tailor, and more.

This announcement comes as little surprise, as “The Librarians” has consistently been Syfy’s top-performing original series on a Live+3 basis in the adults 18-49 demographic. After experiencing a noticeable uptick in its ratings throughout its second season as well, the show’s third season has been averaging a live + same day rating of 0.26, which is just slightly less than the 0.31 average of its second.

The show’s 13-episode fourth season will premiere on Syfy in 2019, and the news also comes just ahead of the show’s latest episode, which will air on the network Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET.
