The CW has picked up “iZombie” and “The Originals,” the last two shows on the network waiting to hear word of their futures, for the 2017-18 season.
The two pickups came late Wednesday. “The Originals” will return for its fifth season in 2017-18, while “iZombie” is going into its fourth. Both shows began their runs late this season and will continue into June.
“The Originals” has averaged a 0.33 rating among adults 18-49 in initial airings this season, in line with the 0.36 for its average on Fridays the second half of last season (for the 2015-16 season as a whole it was at a 0.39).
“iZombie,” meanwhile, is averaging a 0.32 this season, down from the 0.53 it earned in a fall and winter run last season. Nonetheless, it was largely believed that it would be a safe pickup for next season.
With the two pickups — along with four new series it ordered Wednesday — The CW likely has no decisions outstanding on shows for next season. It renewed 11 of the 15 scripted series in 2016-17, canceled freshmen “Frequency” and “No Tomorrow” and announced final seasons ahead of time for “The Vampire Diaries” and “Reign.”
