The game just got shorter for “The Player.”

NBC has cut the show’s order from 13 to nine episodes. Episode 5 aired on Thursday, which would put the show’s end date at Nov. 19.

“The Player,” which stars Philp Winchester and Wesley Snipes, has struggled ratings-wise on Thursdays this fall. It’s averaging just a 0.9 same-day rating in adults 18-49. Live +7 viewing for the first two episodes (the latest available) only pushed it from a 1.1 to a 1.8 average.

The show is the second newcomer this fall to have its order reduced. FOX cut back “Minority Report” to 10 episodes.
