On the same day that many of its shows are meeting their end, ABC is also guaranteeing that several others will be back next season.
This afternoon, ABC has officially renewed “The Rookie,” “American Housewife,” “Bless This Mess,” “Single Parents,” and “Fresh Off the Boat” for the 2019-20 season. “The Rookie,” “Bless This Mess,” and “Single Parents” will all be returning for their second seasons, while “American Housewife” will be coming back for its fourth and “Fresh Off the Boat” for its sixth.
“American Housewife” has been considered a likely renewal since the start of the season, a result of both its solid ratings performance and its closeness to a syndication deal, while “The Rookie” benefitted from both its consistency in the ratings and its strong delayed-viewing numbers.
“Bless This Mess” is still only a few weeks into its run, making it harder to predict its future leading up to the renewal today. However, it’s averaging only a 0.7 live + same day rating among adults 18-49 right now, two-tenths below the 0.9 that “Single Parents” averaged throughout its first season. “Fresh Off the Boat” could have gone either way, with a 0.6 average.
The above five shows now join the previously-renewed “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Station 19,” “How to Get Away with Murder,” “Black-ish,” “The Good Doctor,” “Modern Family,” “A Million Little Things,” and “The Conners” on ABC’s 2019-20 schedule.
With these ABC renewals taken into account, only “Whiskey Cavalier,” “Schooled,” and “The Goldbergs” are still waiting to find out if they will or will not be back next season. So stay tuned for updates as more announcements from the network are sure to come.
