The CW isn’t at the moment planning to wrap up “The Vampire Diaries” next season — but what happens with the show’s ratings in 2016-17 could change that.
“No decision has been made one way or the other [as to] whether this is the final season,” CW president Mark Pedowitz told reporters Thursday in announcing the network’s schedule for next season. The show will take up residence on Friday night, where it aired the second half of this season.
“In my dreams it isn’t,” Pedowitz adds, “but but you never know till you get there. We’ll see how the audience reacts.”
The number of episodes for Season 8 “The Vampire Diaries” (and The CW’s other shows, for that matter) hasn’t been settled yet. Pedowitz says the network will make those decisions “in the next week or so.”
