NBC is capitalizing on its biggest programming event of the year — the Olympics — by airing new episodes of “Superstore” and “The Voice” during the global sporting event.

As NBC previously announced, a new, Olympics-themed episode of America Ferrera’s comedy “Superstore” will air at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT Friday, Aug. 19. The network will also air a special 30-minute blind auditions episode of “The Voice” at 10:30 Sunday, Aug. 21, the night of the Closing Ceremony. It will mark the debut of new coaches Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus.

“The Olympics give us a unique chance to expose some of our strongest shows to millions of viewers who might not otherwise see them. So we wanted to showcase our great new comedy hit ‘Superstore’ with a special Olympics-related storyline, as well as blow the doors open on this fall’s blind auditions of ‘The Voice’ featuring Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus — our two new coaches — alongside Blake [Shelton] and Adam [Levine],” NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt says. “Much appreciation to Mark Lazarus and our sports division who bring us the gift of the Olympics every two years.”

Selecting “Superstore” and “The Voice” to get the prime placement of the Olympics further emphasizes NBC’s support of the two shows. “Superstore” was NBC’s top new comedy last year and one of the only two comedies to return (in addition to “The Carmichael Show”) for the 2016-17 season.

Following the special Olympics week episodes, “The Voice” Season 11 premieres on Monday, Sept. 19, and “Superstore” Season 2 premieres on Thursday, Sept. 22 on NBC.
