Wednesday’s Season 3 finale of “Tyrant” on FX will also be the last episode of the series.
FX made the announcement a few hours ahead of the finale’s airing. The series followed an American family drawn by family ties into the seat of power in a fictional Middle Eastern country.
“The creators of ‘Tyrant’ have done their utmost over three seasons to tell American audiences a tiny fraction of the many gripping, human stories coursing through the Middle East today,” FX CEO John Landgraf says in a statement. “We want to thank [EPs] Howard Gordon, Chris Keyser and their talented team of collaborators, including all the writers, directors, cast and crew, as well as our studio partners at Fox 21 Television Studios, for taking on ‘Tyrant’s’ tremendously ambitious story with such profound dedication and respect.”
“Tyrant” was never one of FX’s biggest shows, and Season 3 took a pretty sizable ratings hit vs. the previous year. The show averaged a 0.2 same-day rating in adults 18-49 (down 50 percent from Season 2’s 0.4) and 791,000 viewers, a drop of 33 percent from 1.18 million.
