“Today” Posted Its Best Total Viewer Advantage Over GMA In Ten Weeks, Since The Week Of February 16, 2009 

“Today” Notched Its Biggest Over GMA In A25-54, Since The Week Of December 8, 2009 

NEW YORK – May 7, 2009 – NBC News’ “Today” continues as the dominant morning news program topping the competition in all categories. For the week ending May 1, “Today” was No. 1 with more than 5.8 million total viewers – a 1.24 million (27 percent) lead over GMA, and a 2.75 million (90 percent) lead over “The Early Show.” “Today” posted its best total viewer advantage over GMA in ten weeks (since the week of February 16, 2009). This week’s win marks “Today’s” 699th consecutive week in first place. 

“Today” increased its deliveries versus the prior week in homes (2%), total viewers (4%), W/M18-49 (5%/10%), and W/M/A25-54 (4%/15%/5%). As a result of week-to-week audience gains, “Today” improved it advantages over both GMA and Early show in total viewers, and M25-54. Season-to-date, “Today’s” advantages over GMA have increased in homes, total viewers, W/M/A18-49 and W/A25-54 versus the same period last season. 

For the week, “Today” led with a 4.3 household rating/15 share and more than 5.8 million viewers. “GMA” trailed by large margins with a 3.4/12 and less than 4.6 million viewers. CBS’ “The Early Show” remained far behind in third place, with a 2.3/8 and 3.1 million viewers. 

In rating A25-54, “Today” led GMA by 31 percent (5 tenths) and beat the “Early Show” by 110 percent (1.1 ratings points). This marks “Today’s” biggest win over GMA in A25-54 since the week of December 8, 2009. In rating A18-49, “Today” outperformed GMA by 33 percent (4 tenths) and Early Show by 100 percent (8 tenths). 

“Today II” posted a 2.5/10 in homes and more than 3.3 million viewers “Today II” outperformed CBS Early Show in homes and total viewers. “Today II” beat The View in M18-49 (+25%) and M25-54 (+17%). Versus the prior week, “Today II” posted growth in total viewers (+1%), M/A18-49 (+25%/+14%), and W/M/A25-54 (+8%/+17%/+11%). 

For the week, “Today III” delivered a 1.4/6 in homes and 1.8 million viewers. Week-to-week, “Today III” posted gains in M18-49 (+50%) and M25-54 (+33%). Season-to-date, “Today III” has improved in A25-54.
