ABC Adult 18-49 Weekly Ratings Projections (w/o 01/06/15)

ABC’s weekly Live + Same Day Adult 18-49 average is projected to increase 30% to a 1.8 rating in Live + 3 Day and build 38% to a 1.9 rating in Live + 7 Day.


Week No. 16 (Live + Same Day)

During the week of January 5, 2015, ABC aired 5 of the Top 20 non-sports TV shows in Adults 18-49, including its entire Wednesday comedy block: “Modern Family” – No. 5, “The Goldbergs” – No. 10, “The Middle” – No. 15, “The Bachelor” – No. 17 and “black-ish” – No. 19.


·       ABC’s numbers grew by double digits week to week in Total Viewers (+11% – 5.2 million vs. 4.7 million) and Adults 18-49 (+17% – 1.4/4 vs. 1.2/4) to deliver 4 week highs – since w/o 12/8/14.



Featuring the 3-hour Season 19 premiere of “The Bachelor,” ABC ranked No. 1 on Monday in Adults 18-49 (2.2/7 tied in rating w/ CBS’ original lineup), beating Fox’s original dramas by 5% (2.1/6 for “Gotham”/”Sleepy Hollow”) and NBC by 29% with the Monday premiere of “Celebrity Apprentice” and “State of Affairs” (1.7/5). The ABC unscripted series grew in each hour of its broadcast, gaining 11% in Total Viewers and 20% in Adults 18-49 from its first to final hour.  


·       ABC posted a 6-week high on the night in Adults 18-49 (since 11/24/14), delivering its 2nd-highest-rated Monday this season.


·       “The Bachelor” ranked as Monday’s No. 1 TV show in Adults 18-34 and key Women (W18-34/W18-49).


·       “The Bachelor” was Monday’s most-social broadcast with 247,043 tweets.



Featuring the debut of “Marvel’s Agent Carter” and the return of “Forever,” ABC took second to CBS’ original Tuesday drama lineup in Total Viewers (6.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.6/5), beating Fox’s original lineup (4.0 million and 1.5/5). 


·       ABC marked its biggest audience on the night with regular programming since season premiere Tuesday in September – since 9/23/14. In addition, the Net was up over the year-ago night by 22% in Total Viewers and by 13% in Adults 18-49.


“Marvel’s Agent Carter” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 6.9 million and 1.9/6 in AD18-49):

From 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC’s debut of “Marvel’s Agent Carter” ranked a solid second to CBS’ original dramas (“NCIS”/”NCIS: New Orleans”) in Adults 18-49, beating Fox’s prime by 26% (“MasterChef Junior”/”New Girl”/”The Mindy Project” = 1.5/5). The new ABC drama ranked No. 1 in the 2-hour time period among Men 18-34 and Teens 12-17 (tie).


·       ABC’s “Marvel’s Agent Carter” delivered the Net’s best Adult 18-49 rating in the 2-hour time slot with regular programming in 14 months – since 11/5/13. “Agent Carter” was also up from the most recent airing of “S.H.I.E.L.D.” (5.3 million and 1.7/5 on 12/9/14), which was the show’s 2nd-strongest performance since its September premiere, in viewers (+30%) and young adults (+12%).


·       “Agent Carter” was Tuesday’s most social broadcast series with 104,053 tweets, making it ABC’s 2nd-most-social drama debut this season, behind only “How to Get Away with Murder.”


“Forever” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 4.9 million and 1.1/4 in AD18-49):

At 10:00 p.m., ABC’s “Forever” held steady with its most recent original 4 weeks ago in Adults 18-49 (1.1/4). “Forever” was up from the debut of “Killer Women” in the hour on the same night last year (4.0 million and 0.9/2 on 1/7/14) by 23% in Total Viewers and by 22% in Adults 18-49.


·       On two of its November Sweep telecasts in the Live + 7 Day numbers (weeks of 11/10/14 and 11/17/14), “Forever” doubled its L+SD Adult 18-49 rating (+100%) for its biggest-ever playback lifts.



With its 8:00-10:00 p.m. comedies returning to original for the first time in 4 weeks and a repeat of “Galavant” in the 10:00 p.m. hour, ABC took a solid second Wednesday in Adults 18-49 (2.0/6) to Fox with the season premiere of “American Idol” and the debut of “Empire,” beating original lineups on CBS by 25% (1.6/5 for “The Mentalist” premiere/”People’s Choice Awards”) and NBC by 33% (1.5/5 for its dramas).


“The Middle” (8:00-8:30 p.m. – 8.5 million and 2.3/7 in AD18-49):

At 8:00 p.m. against “Idol,” ABC’s “The Middle” built on its last original in viewers (+5%) and young adults (+5%) to deliver season highs and its top numbers in nearly 1 year – since 2/5/14 and 1/22/14, respectively. In addition, the show was up 5% over its year-ago telecast in Adults 18-49 (2.2/7 on 1/8/14).


“The Goldbergs” (8:30-9:00 p.m. – 7.8 million and 2.5/7 in AD18-49):

At 8:30 p.m., “The Goldbergs” built on its Adult 18-49 lead-in (+9%) and was up from its last original by 4% in viewers and 14% in young adults to post the series’ 2nd-highest numbers ever  (despite facing “Idol” for the first time) best since its series debut on 9/24/13 coming out of “S.H.I.E.L.D.”


·       The sophomore ABC comedy continued to pace way ahead of its year-ago benchmarks in Adults 18-49, improving its half-hour year to year for ABC by 67% (1.5/4 for “Super Fun Night” on 1/8/14) and outdelivering its own year-ago Tuesday 9:00 p.m. telecast by 47% (1.7/5 on 1/7/14).


“Modern Family” (9:00-9:31 p.m. – 9.3 million and 3.2/9 in AD18-49):

At 9:00 p.m., ABC’s “Modern Family” was up for its 2nd-straight original among Adults 18-49 (+3%) to earn its highest rating since mid-November – since 11/19/14.   


“black-ish” (9:31-10:00 p.m. – 6.2 million and 2.1/6 in AD18-49):

In the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, “black-ish” continued to greatly improve its slot year to year for ABC, surpassing the year-ago telecast of “Super Fun Night” (on 1/8/14) by 32% in Total Viewers (6.3 million vs. 4.7 million) and by 24% in Adults 18-49 (2.1/6 vs. 1.7/5). 


“The Taste” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 3.2 million and 0.9/3 in AD18-49):  

From 8:00-10:00 p.m. against the 2-hour Thursday premiere of “American Idol” and all originals on CBS and NBC, ABC’s “The Taste” built by double digits week to week in Total Viewers (+14%) and Adults 18-49 (+29%), drawing its biggest audience since its season premiere (on 12/04/14) and matching a season high with young adults. 


With its lineup returning to all original for the first time in 4 weeks (since 12/12/14), ABC ranked No. 1 on Friday in Adults 18-49 (1.6/5). All 4 of ABC’s shows were up by double digits from their most recent originals, with “Last Man Standing” hitting new season highs and “Cristela” at series highs. The Net marked its most-watched Friday this season (7.1 million).

·       ABC’s “Shark Tank” was Friday’s No. 1 TV show in Adults 18-49 (1.9/6), delivering the top series position on the evening for its 12th consecutive original telecast this season. ABC’s “20/20” was Friday’s No. 1 news program in Total Viewers and key Adults (AD18-49/AD25-54), dominating both NBC’s “Dateline” (9:00-10:00 p.m.) and its Golden Globes news special head to head at 10:00 p.m.


“Last Man Standing” (8:00-8:31 p.m. – 8.6 million and 1.6/6 in AD18-49):

At 8:00 p.m., “Last Man Standing” won its half-hour with Total Viewers (8.6 million) in Adults 18-49 (1.6/6), ranking as the night’s top-rated scripted show with young adults. “LMS” shot up from its most recent original in Total Viewers (+43%) and Adults 18-49 (+45%) to deliver season highs with its biggest audience since December 2011 and its top young adult rating since March 2013 – since 12/6/11 and 3/22/13, respectively.

“Cristela” (8:31-9:00 p.m. – 6.6 million and 1.3/4 in AD18-49):

At 8:30 p.m., “Cristela” catapulted over its most-recent original in viewers (+47%) and young adults (+63%) to deliver series highs (tied in Adults 18-49).

·       “Cristela” improved its half-hour over original programming on the year-ago night (“The Neighbors” on 1/10/14 = 4.8 million and 1.1/4) by 1.8 million Viewers and by 18% in Adults 18-49. 


“Shark Tank” (9:00-10:01 p.m. – 7.7 million and 1.9/6 in AD18-49):

Spiking over its Adult 18-49 lead-in at 9:00 p.m. (+46%), ABC’s “Shark Tank” beat its nearest competition in the hour by 27% (1.9/6 vs. 1.5/5 – CBS’ “Hawaii 5-0”). “Shark Tank” built over its last original in Total Viewers (+10%) and Adults 18-49 (+27%) to its best numbers since November – since 11/21/14.

“20/20” (10:01-11:00 p.m. – 6.0 million and 1.4/5 in AD18-49):

ABC’s “20/20” ranked No. 1 in the 10:00 p.m. hour in Adults 18-49 (1.4/5), tying CBS’ “Blue Bloods” and beating NBC News’ Golden Globes special by 180% (0.5/2).

·       The ABC newsmagazine surged week to week in Total Viewers (+25%), Adults 25-54 (+19%) and Adults 18-49 (+27%), hitting a 4-week high in the key news demo – since 12/12/14.

·       During the just completed 4th Quarter of 2014, “20/20” was up over 4Q13 in Total Viewers (+3%), Adults 18-49 (+7%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%).  In fact, “20/20” delivered its top 4th Quarter numbers in 5 years in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 (tie) – since 4Q09.


“Galavant” (8:00-9:00 p.m. – 4.1 million and 1.3/3 in AD18-49): 

At 8:00 p.m. opposite the start of the “Golden Globes” and an NFL Playoff overrun-fueled CBS, ABC’s “Galavant” built on its young adult lead-in (+18%) and continued to improve its hour for the Net, growing from the year-ago “The Bachelor” special in the slot by 24% in Total Viewers (4.1 million vs. 3.3 million) and by 30% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/3 vs. 1.0/2).
