in 9 Years Delivering Over 11 Million Total Viewers and Nearly 3 Million Adults 25-54

 

  “World News Tonight” Cuts Year-to-Year Gaps with “NBC Nightly News”

in Total Viewers (-62%) and Adults 18-49 (-14%)

 

“World News Tonight with David Muir” Only Program to Grow Year-to-Year

“World News Tonight” Grows Week-to-Week Across All Key Target Demos

 

 

 

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” averaged 9.485 million Total Viewers, 2.320 million Adults 25-54 and 1.532 million Adults 18-49 during the week of January 26, 2015, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.  

On Monday (1/26/15), “World News Tonight” turned in its top telecast of the season in both Total Viewers (11.147 million) and Adults 25-54 (2.988 million).  In fact, the Monday airing was “World News Tonight’s” most-watched telecast in nearly 9 years – since 2/20/06, based on regular telecasts. 

 

“World News Tonight” posted across-the-board increases week to week (9.125 million, 2.191 million and 1.484 million, respectively, for w/o 1/19/15): Total Viewers (+4%), Adults 25-54 (+6%) and Adults 18-49 (+3%).

 

“World News Tonight” improved on the year-ago week in Total Viewers (+1% – 9.485 million vs. 9.400 million on w/o 1/20/14).  In fact, “World News Tonight” stood as the only evening newscast to grow year to year compared to “CBS Evening News” (-4%) and “NBC Nightly News” (-6%). 

 

“World News Tonight” decreased its margins with “NBC Nightly News” on the same week last year by double-digits in Total Viewers (-62% – 404,000 vs. 1.074 million) and Adults 18-49 (-14% – 243,000 vs. 283,000).  

 

Season to date, “World News Tonight” has slashed nearly all of its season margin with “NBC Nightly News” in Adults 25-54 (-89% – 28,000 vs. 255,000), delivering its closest news demo performance with the NBC program in 7 years – since the 2007-08 season.   In addition, “World News Tonight” cut its season gaps with “NBC Nightly News” by 43% in Total Viewers (593,000 vs. 1.034 million) and by 51% in Adults 18-49 (140,000 vs. 287,000) to its closest performances in 7 years in both measures  – since the 2007-08 season.

 

“World News Tonight” is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+6%), Adults 25-54 (+4%) and Adults 18-49 (+1%) “World News Tonight” is averaging its largest overall viewer audience in 7 years and strongest in the key adult news demo in 4 years – since the 2007-08 and the 2010-11 seasons, respectively. In addition, “World News Tonight” is improving the most in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49 compared to “CBS Evening News” (+2%/flat/-1 %) and “NBC Nightly News” (flat/-6%/-7%). 

 

For the week, “World News Tonight” led the “CBS Evening News” by 1.479 million Total Viewers, by 329,000 Adults 25-54 and by 265,000 Adults 18-49.
