Fastest Growing Morning Show, Ahead of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” “CBS This Morning” and NBC’s “Today Show,” with Double-Digit Audience Growth Among Adults 18-34 and 18-49

MIAMI – OCTOBER 2, 2013 – Univision Communications Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America, today announced that its morning program “Despierta America” (Wake Up America), concluded the 2012/2013 season with its best viewership in the history of the show. The show, hosted by Alan Tacher, Ana Patricia González, Karla Martínez, Johnny Lozada, Raúl González and Satcha Pretto, averaged a record 839,000 Total Viewers 2+, an increase of 21% over the previous season.


“These truly impressive results speak to Despierta America’s unique ability to engage viewers, even after 16 years on the air,” said Alberto Ciurana, president of Programming and Content, Univision Networks. “We are extremely proud of Alan, Ana Patricia, Karla, Johnny, Raúl and Satcha as well as the entire production team, for putting together an extraordinary live show every morning that delivers the kind of information and entertainment that Hispanics want and can’t find anywhere else.”


“Despierta America” also ended the 2012/2013 season with strong year-over-year audience growth, making it the fastest-growing early morning show versus its English-language broadcast counterparts among key demos including Adults 18-49 (+22% to 429,000), Women 18-49 (+36% to 308,000), Adults 25-54 (+19% to 436,000) and Adults 18-34 (+15% to 183,000). In fact, among Adults 18-49, ABC’s “Good Morning America” (+0%), “CBS This Morning” (+2%) and NBC’s “Today Show” (-16%) were virtually flat or down compared to the 2011/2012 season.


Throughout the 2012/2013 Season, “Despierta America” attracted a much younger audience (44 years old) in comparison to ABC’s “Good Morning America” (58 years old), “CBS This Morning” (59 years old) and NBC’s “Today Show” (57 years old). “Despierta America” viewers were also highly unduplicated with 63% of its Adult 18-49 audience not watching any of the other English-language broadcast early morning shows.


Additionally, “Despierta America” remained as the No. 1 early morning program during the entire 2012/2013 season with more Hispanic Adult 18-49  viewers than the combined audience of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” CBS’ “This Morning” and NBC’s “The Today Show” (421,000 vs. 346,000).
