Monday, February 16, 2009:

Treating viewers to never-before-seen episodes of hit series “Wizards of Waverly Place” and “Hannah Montana,” followed by the premiere of the Disney Channel Original Movie “Dadnapped,” starring a bevy of its top series’ stars, Disney Channel shined Monday night with its “Night of Stars” programming event, holding the definitive edge versus key competitors, most notably original programming on Nickelodeon/Nick-at-Nite. In fact head to head “Dadnapped” out-performed “Spectacular!” by impressive double-digit percent margins in Total Viewers and both key kid demos, with all three programs delivering all-time highs for the network in their respective time slots.

  • At 7 o’clock an all-new “Wizards of Waverly Place” dominated an original “True Jackson, VP” on Nickelodeon, overshadowing delivery by 45% in Total Viewers (4.5 million vs. 3.1 million), by 82% in Kids 6-11 (2.0 million vs. 1.1 million) and by 75% in Tweens 9-14 (1.7 million vs. 972,000).

o   “Wizards of Waverly Place” delivered Disney Channel’s largest audience in the time period in the net’s history in Total Viewers (4.5 million), Kids 6-11 (2.0 million) and Tweens 9-14 (1.7 million-tied 1/1/07).

  • At 7:30 p.m., the all-new “Hannah Montana,” guest starring Rob Reiner, surpassed its last original episode by 19% in Total Viewers (4.4 million vs. 3.7 million), by 27% in Kids 6-11 (1.9 million vs. 1.5 million) and by 21% in Tweens 9-14 (1.7 million vs. 1.4 million).

o   With “Hannah Montana,” Disney Channel registered the largest Total Viewer audience ever in the time period and recorded second-best levels in Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14, behind only Monday, 10/9/06.

  • In its debut, Disney Channel’s 74th Disney Channel Original Movie, “Dadnapped” (8:00 – 9:40 p.m.), was particularly dominant against key time period competition, defeating the highly-publicized debut of original movie knock-off “Spectacular!” on Nickelodeon/Nick-at-Nite by a significant 39% in Total Viewers (4.6 million vs. 3.3 million), by 62% in Kids 6-11 (2.1 million vs. 1.3 million) and by 38% in Tweens 9-14 (1.8 million vs. 1.3 million).

The movie starred Disney Channel series stars Emily Osment, Jason Earles, Moises Arias (each of “Hannah Montana”), David Henrie (“Wizards of Waverly Place”) and Phill Lewis (“The Suite Life on Deck”).

o   Boasting best-ever time period levels in both key kid demos in the net’s history, impressively, “Dadnapped” also more than doubled year-ago time period levels, up by 119% in Total Viewers (4.6 million vs. 2.1 million), by 134% in Kids 6-11 (2.1 million vs. 896,000) and by 130% in Tweens 9-14 (1.8 million vs. 784,000).
