NBC has set several records through the holiday season, with these two latest results just coming in from Nielsen today:
  • A record 9.5 million viewers for “NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly.”
  • A 12-Year High of 7.5 million for NBC’s coverage of the Tournament of Roses Parade.
  • And note these join a number of other holiday-season accomplishments for NBC:
    • The biggest audience in People Meter history for “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade” (25.2 million), as well as for “The National Dog Show Presented by Purina” (10.7 million).
    • “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” hit a seven-year high in adults 18-49 (2.3 rating) and a three-year high in total viewers (9.7 million).
    • “The Sound of Music Live!” delivered NBC’s biggest Thursday in total viewers since 2004 (18.7 million viewers in “live plus same day,” 21.8 million in “live plus seven days”).
    And here are the New Year’s Details…
    NBC’s New Year’s Eve With Carson Daly
    • Tuesday night’s “NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly,” (3.2 rating, 11 share in adults 18-49, 9.5 million viewers overall) matched its highest adult 18-49 rating in its nine years on the air (a 3.2 was previously achieved in 2009) and set a new record in total viewers (topping the prior record of 9.3 million in 2009).
    • “NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly” was the only 11 or 11:30 Tuesday telecast on ABC, NBC or Fox to grow versus last year in 18-49, with Fox’s “New Year’s Eve Live” down by 6% (with a 1.7 rating vs. last year’s 1.8) and ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2013” down 8% (7.1 vs. 7.7).  In total viewers, the Fox telecast was down 10% (4.4 million vs. 4.9 million) while the ABC program was up 3% (22.8 million vs. 22.2 million).
    NBC’s coverage of the 125th Tournament of Roses Parade
    • Wednesday’s NBC coverage of the 125th Tournament of Roses Parade (1.4 rating in adults 18-49, 7.5 million viewers overall from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. ET) hit a 12-year high in total viewers, with its biggest overall audience since 2002 (7.8 million).  Versus last year’s 6.5 million viewers, the 2014 telecast was up 16%.  NBC’s 2014 coverage matched the year-ago 18-49 rating (1.4).
