It’s now common for networks to announce show renewals via Twitter. One of the stars of Once Upon A Time, Josh Dallas, unwittingly pioneered a new way to announce a show pick-up this morning: via an appearance on a local morning news show. During a casual chat about the show, Sam Rubin, a reporter for Los Angeles CW affiliate KTLA, said to Dallas, “The show’s already been picked up, so you go back when?” Dallas responded, “July.” Oops! Rubin said it so matter of factly that he probably assumed the renewal had already been announced. The interview is embedded below.

An ABC representative OUAT’s future was never in doubt, though is ratings have declined this season. It’s still one of ABC’s strongest dramas and it benefits from corporate synergy, since it serves as a showcase for Disney characters. However, ABC prefers to announce most of its renewals in May. An ABC representative has yet to respond to requests for confirmation or denial.
