More Than 1 Million People Tune In to Hit Series Focusing on Bold,

Unshakable, Stark-Raving Ready Preppers

(WASHINGTON, D.C. — November 14, 2012) National Geographic Channel’s season two premiere of its No. 1 series Doomsday Preppers on Tuesday, November 13, at 9 p.m. ET/PT got viewers to “bunker down” — and became the highest new season premiere in the channel’s 11-year history, with the episode “Am I Nuts Or Are You?” averaging P25–54 1.0 rating. This is 25 percent higher than its season one debut in February 2011, which went on to spawn cable copycats and reveal a prepping phenomenon. The broadcast also became the network’s highest-rated Tuesday night telecast.

1.3 million total viewers over age 2 and 863,000 viewers in the key P25–54 demo tuned in to the premiere. In New York — which is still reeling from Hurricane Sandy — the local market HH rating hit 1.2. Other top “prepper”-watching cities include Denver (1.3), Tampa (1.2), Boston (1.1), Atlanta (1.0), Philadelphia (0.8) and Dallas (0.8).

“Especially in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, this series taps into the cultural zeitgeist of being fully prepared and equipped for any potential disaster — and the ratings last night demonstrate this,” says David Lyle, CEO, National Geographic Channels. “This season we’ll meet even more individuals committed to thinking through every contingency plan and hope viewers continue to widely embrace the preppers we profile.”

Each episode of the series focuses on the lives of otherwise ordinary Americans who are preparing for the end of the world, with experts who analyze the thoroughness of their preps. These men and women stand united in their unshakable certainty that America and the world soon face tougher times — times when grocery stores are empty, urine might be converted to drinking water and electricity is only a dream.
