“Noticiero Telemundo” Fastest Growing Spanish-Language Broadcast Evening News, With 30% Year-Over-Year Growth among Adults 18-49


Telemundo’s Broadcast of Mexican Club León’s Quarterfinal Match against Cruz Azul Ranked #1 Program on Spanish-Language Broadcast Television among Men 18-49



MIAMI – November 29, 2012 – Building on the momentum of its best season ever in 2011-2012, Telemundo Media delivered the network’s best November performance in its history among total viewers (1,265,000) and adults 18-49 (660,000) during Monday through Sunday primetime, according to Nielsen.


Fueled by its unprecedented election coverage, led by anchor José Díaz-Balart, “Noticiero Telemundo” posted double-digit gains year-over-year, increasing +22% among total viewers (878,000 vs. 721,000) and +30% among adults 18-49 (402,000 vs. 310,000), making it the fastest growing Spanish-language broadcast evening news program year-over-year. The electoral coverage included Noticiero Telemundo’s award-winning team of journalists and political analysts, who reported from key locations across the country. Telemundo was the only Spanish-language broadcast television network in the United States to provide exclusive exit poll results.



During the week of October 29 in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, “Noticiero Telemundo” averaged nearly 1 million total viewers and 500,000 adults 18-49, the program’s strongest weekly performance ever in the network’s National People Meter history.


Telemundo delivered nearly 1.7 million total viewers and 966,000 adults 18-49 for the popular Mexican first division soccer team Club León’s quarterfinal match against Cruz Azul on Saturday, November 17. The game ranked as the #1 program on Spanish-language broadcast television that night among men 18-49 (672,000). On Thanksgiving, Telemundo’s presentation of the Fútbol Liga Mexicana semifinal game between León and Tijuana averaged 1.63 million total viewers and more than 1 million adults 18-49, marking the network’s best performance ever for an FLM semifinal game among total viewers. Telemundo has aired the top three Apertura 2012 Liguilla games to date among adults 18-49, men 18-49 and total viewers.


Novela fans also flocked to to get the inside scoop and interact with their favorite stars in November 2012, which resulted in double-digit growth for video streams in November, up +32% year over year, with 9.2MM video streams. Telemundo’s mobile apps also delivered double digit gains in all key performance indicators. Unique users increased by +17% month-over-month (212,000 vs. 182,000), while page views grew +12% (5MM vs. 4.5MM).




At 7pm, “Caso Cerrado Edición Estelar” delivered 1.65 million total viewers in November, its strongest delivery to date in 2012, and averaged 733,000 adults 18-49.


“Corazón Valiente” at 9pm increased delivery for the time period year-over-year among key demos, averaging 1.35 million total viewers (+10%) and 705,000 adults 18-49 (+5%).


“Pablo Escobar: El Patrón del Mal” averaged 1.63 million total viewers and nearly 1 million adults 18-49, increasing performance in the 10pm hour year-over-year by +14% and 27%, respectively.


During the month of November, Telemundo aired three of the top five movies on Spanish-language broadcast television in primetime among total viewers, including #1 ranked “Twilight” (1.61 million). Among adults 18-49, Telemundo aired four of the top five movies, including #1 ranked “Shrek Forever After” (857,000) and #2 ranked “Twilight” (813,000).
