TELEMUNDO DELIVERS BEST SEASON IN NETWORK’S HISTORY AMONG TOTAL VIEWERS AND ADULTS 18-49—UP 9% IN BOTH DEMOS
Network’s #1 Reality Series, “La Voz Kids” #1 Spanish-Language Broadcast Program among Adults 18-34 in its Time Period
Telemundo Ranks as #6 Broadcast Network in Primetime among Adults 18-49– Delivering More Viewers than The CW Network
MIAMI – May 22, 2013 — Telemundo Media delivered its best season in the history of the network, up 9% vs. the 2011-2012 season, averaging more total viewers (1,331,000 vs. 1,218,000) and adults 18-49 (694, 000 vs. 635,000) during Monday through Sunday primetime programming, according to Nielsen. For the first time in its National People Meter (NPM) history, Telemundo ranked as the #6 broadcast network overall this season among adults 18-49 in primetime and out-delivered The CW Network. For the season, the network is also the fastest-growing broadcast network, regardless of language, in primetime among adults 18-49, gaining an additional 59,000 viewers vs. the prior season (694,000 vs. 635,000)– increasing more than any other broadcast network. The network also delivered its largest share in history, a 25 share (3-net) in adults 18-49 for Monday through Sunday primetime, up +1 point vs. the prior season.
Telemundo wraps up the season delivering 32% more total viewers and 31% more adults 18-49 than UniMás, MundoFox, Azteca and Estrella combined.
Additionally, for the first time, Telemundo out-delivered The CW network this season head-to-head Monday through Friday from 8:00-10:00pm among total viewers (1,464,000 vs. 1,403,000) up 4%, adults 18-49 (747,000 vs. 665,000) up 12%, and adults 18-34 (372,000 vs. 342,000), up 9%.
In addition, Telemundo is on pace for a record breaking May performance, shattering previous records with a 31 share among major Spanish-language broadcast networks during Monday through Friday primetime, its best share among adults 18-49 in the network’s history. In May, Telemundo’s Monday through Friday primetime programming set a new record for the network, which averaged more total viewers than before (1,658,000), making it the highest rated May in the network’s history. Telemundo’s record-breaking performance this season is fueled by the success of two breakout hit novelas “El Señor de los Cielos and “La Patrona,” “ its new reality series “La Voz Kids,” and its award-winning newscast, “Noticiero Telemundo.”
“EL Señor DE LOS CIELOS”
Telemundo’s latest hit, “El Señor de los Cielos” (10:00pm weekdays) is averaging over 2.2 million total viewers and more than 1.4 million adults 18-49, positioning it as the #2 novela in the network’s history. The novela registered a 42% share of adults 18-49 among major Spanish-language broadcast networks in its time period. In its first five weeks at 10pm, “El Señor de los Cielos” ranked as the #1 program at 10pm, 25% of the time among adults 18-34, regardless of language. The series beat at least one English-language network among adults 18-34 92% of the time and beat Univision to rank #1 with adults 18-34 among the Spanish-language networks 50% of the time. The series, which premiered in April, tells the story of Aurelio Casillas, one of the most prominent Mexican drug lords from the 1990’s, and is the network’s most ambitious production to date.
Premiere-to-date, “La Patrona” (9:00pm weekdays) starring Aracely Arámbula, Jorge Luis Pila and Christian Bach is averaging over 1.9 million total viewers and more than one million adults18-49, ranking as the #3 novela in Telemundo history.
“LA VOZ KIDS”
“La Voz Kids,” the singing competition series based on the phenomenon “The Voice,” premiered this season and quickly became Telemundo’s #1 reality series, averaging over 1.7 million total viewers with nearly 900,000 among adults 18-49 and 478,000 among adults 18-34, premiere-to-date. The series has ranked as the #1 Spanish-language broadcast program among adults 18-34 each week since it premiered in the Sunday 7:00-9:00pm time period.
“Noticiero Telemundo” is the fastest-growing broadcast evening news program regardless of language this season, delivering the largest increase out of any network, more than 13%, over prior season in total viewers (804,000 vs. 711,000).
