TELEMUNDO’S MONDAY-FRIDAY PRIMETIME CONTINUES TO CLOSE THE RATINGS GAP WITH UNIVISION AMONG KEY DEMOS FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE QUARTER
Network’s Monday-Friday Primetime Programming, Up 12% and Sets Share Record among Adults 18-49
TELEMUNDO News Properties Continue to Grow at Faster Rates than Broadcast Competition, Regardless of Language
MIAMI – July 2, 2015— TELEMUNDO’s Monday-Friday primetime programming delivered a 32% share among all Spanish-language broadcast networks in the second quarter of 2015, up six share points vs. last year among adults 18-49, marking the best quarter in network history, according to Nielsen. The network’s weekday primetime schedule averaged 758,000 adults 18-49 in the second quarter of 2015, up 12% in the demo versus last year. TELEMUNDO has also seen a growth in total viewers, averaging 1.52 million, a 7% increase vs. last year.
This record-breaking quarter brings TELEMUNDO closer than ever to its competition, as the network gained more viewers in the adults 18-49 and adults 18-34 demos than any other Spanish-language broadcast network. This marks the third consecutive quarter that the gap between TELEMUNDO and Univision has decreased among adults 18-49 (383,000 difference; 758,000 vs. 1,141,000) and millennial age 18-34 (160,000 difference; 350,000 vs. 510,000)
Primetime ratings were driven by the success of Telemundo’s Super Series, “El Senor De Los Cielos,” which averaged 1.46 million viewers among adults 18-49 and 731,000 viewers among adults 18-34, premiere-to-date. The 10 pm Super Series earned TELEMUNDO the #1 network spot among adults 18-34 in the Monday-Friday time slot across all broadcast and cable networks.
The second quarter of 2015 was also strong for TELEMUNDO’s news programs, with its morning show, “Un Nuevo Dia”, setting a new record for the best second quarter performance ever, averaging 299,000 total viewers and 135,000 adults 18-49, growing 40% and 38% respectively vs. last year.
2Q15 also brought the best second quarter results for “Noticiero Telemundo,” averaging 918,000 total viewers and 355,000 adults 18-49, increasing 9% and 10% respectively vs. the prior year. In addition, “Al Rojo Vivo” is on track to deliver its best second quarter ever among total viewers, averaging 1.15 million, up 4% vs. last year.
Telemundo’s public affairs program, “Enfoque con José Díaz-Balart” is on pace to deliver its best 2Q performance while the network’s daily sports entertainment program, “Titulares y Mas” is on track to deliver its best quarter ever in network history among adults 18-49 and total viewers.
