More than 100 Latino Superstars Came Together for a 28-hour Fundraising Event that Featured Uninterrupted Programming and Live Simultaneous Broadcasts from Seven Cities Coast-to-Coast

Funds Raised Exceeded Goal and Will Help Several Organizations, Including Miami Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Children´s Hospital Los Angeles, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital, SNACK (Special Needs Activity Center for Kids) & Friends, Boston Children’s Hospital, as well as Help Build a Children’s Rehabilitation Center in the U.S.

MIAMI – DECEMBER 18, 2012 – The Univision Network and Fundación Teletón today announced that “TeletónUSA” successfully raised $8,150,625 million over the weekend for the benefit of children with disabilities, cancer and autism in the United States. During the historic 28-hour “TeletónUSA” – broadcast on the Univision Network and live streamed on, on the Univision America AM radio network, and via the UVideos mobile apps from December 14-16, 2012 – more than 100 Hispanic superstars and television personalities united the community in support of children in need, with dozens of musical performances as well as moving testimonials and personal stories shared by these celebrities.


In all, 13.9 million viewers tuned in to watch all or part of the broadcast, hosted by the legendary presenter of Univision’s top-rated variety show “Sábado Gigante” (Giant Saturday) and founder of Teletón, Mario Kreutzberger (Don Francisco), along with renowned actress and singer Lucero, Univision News anchor Jorge Ramos, “Hoy” (Today) co-host Galilea Montijo, “Despierta América” (Wake-Up America) co-host Raúl González and “Nuestra Belleza Latina” (Our Latin Beauty) host Giselle Blondet, and broadcast from Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Puerto Rico and San Antonio. Performers included 3BallMTY, Chayanne, Larry Hernandez, Pepe Aguilar, Tommy Torres, Pandora, Daniela Romo, Fonseca, Frankie J., Gloria Estefan, Margarita la Diosa de la Cumbia, Graciela Beltrán, Jesse & Joy, Laura León, Leslie Grace, Lucero, Luis Fonsi, Mariana Seoane, Paulina Rubio, Pee Wee, Pedro Fernández, Prince Royce, Ricardo Montaner, Roberto Tapia, Rogelio Martínez, Siete, Los Temerarios and many others.   • During the first hour of “TeletónUSA” (at 10-11 p.m. ET on Friday, December 14), the telecast delivered on average 2.6 million Total Viewers 2+, 1.3 million Adults 18-49 and 662,000 Adults 18-34. This made tUnivision the No. 3 broadcast network in the time slot, beating CBS among Adults 18-34. Additionally, on Friday, December 14 on Univision local stations, “TeletónUSA” made Univision the No. 1 broadcast station in the time period in Los Angeles and Houston among Total Viewers 2+, Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34; and in San Francisco among Adults 18-34.


  • On Saturday, December 15, during broadcast primetime (at 8-11 p.m. ET), “TeletónUSA” made Univision the No. 3 broadcast network among Adults 18-34 (ahead of FOX and NBC) and the No. 4 broadcast network among Adults 18-49 (beating NBC). Additionally, on Univision local stations, on Saturday, December 15, “TeletónUSA” made Univision the No. 1 broadcast station in the time period in Los Angeles among Adults 18-34; in New York among Adults 18-49; in Miami and Houston among Total Viewers 2+, Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34; and in Sacramento among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.


  • During the final hour of “TeletónUSA” (at 1-2 a.m. ET on Sunday, December 16), on average 1.6 million Total Viewers 2+, 863,000 Adults 18-49 and 418,000 Adults 18-34 tuned-in.


  • Overall, the 28-hour broadcast on the Univision Network averaged 1.2 million Total Viewers 2+, 585,000 Adults 18-49 and 284,000 Adults 18-34.

Funds raised during “TeletónUSA” will be shared with several organizations, including Miami Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital, SNACK (Special Needs Activity Center for Kids) & Friends, and Boston Children’s Hospital, as well as to build a children’s rehabilitation center in the United States.

Teletón was born in Chile in 1978 when Kreutzberger created and hosted the first Teletón telecast, mirroring the legendary MDA telethons hosted by Jerry Lewis in the United States. The enormous success of the Chilean Teletón led other Latin American countries to adopt the format, resulting in the establishment of Teletón Foundations throughout the region. Today, the Teletón is held in 13 Latin American nations – Chile, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico – and the United States, and has become one of the world’s largest voluntary aid organizations. “TeletónUSA” featured the slogan “the great united family,” to encompass concepts such as unity, family, generosity, and love for children.


During the telecast viewers could make donations to “TeletónUSA” by calling toll free at 1-800-298-9999, using a credit or debit card; making direct deposits to the “TeletónUSA” dedicated bank account at Banamex USA or Citibank, Acct. 9999#; texting the word Teletón to 80 888 from any mobile phone; donating personally at participating local retailers; or by visiting and/or


“TeletónUSA” extended to Univision’s radio, interactive and social media platforms as well. The Univision America AM radio network provided non-stop coverage throughout the 28 hours, going live at 10 p.m. ET Friday, December 14 from a studio within the main “TeletónUSA” set, carrying the event via a combination of live talent and TV network simulcast throughout the night. Then beginning on Saturday morning, Univision America personalities went live from the studio, broadcasting testimonials and interviews with guest celebrities, children with disabilities and their families. Meanwhile, Univision Radio’s FM stations also aired stories, interviews and testimonials in support of “TeletónUSA” while the Univision Radio mobile platform also provided coverage.


On the online and mobile sites, the latest information on the event and artists were featured, along with behind-the-scenes videos and photos. During the broadcast, users could upload their own testimonial videos for the chance to have their story told on-air on the Univision Network. Additionally, viewers could watch each one of the moving stories from the participating children that were featured on-air, listen to the official TeletónUSA anthem, and browse through photos, videos, shout outs and the celebrity involvement from the event.


Hispanic America’s beloved celebrities and viewers showed their support for “TeletónUSA” via social platforms making it the No. 1 show with social TV activity on Saturday, December 15. Among the top 10 celebrities, with a combined Twitter follower base of more than 24 million people, were Thalia, Luis Fonsi, Ricardo Montaner, Galilea Montijo, Lucero, Maite Perroni and Prince Royce.


Viewer and celebrity social comments were highlighted during the broadcast by “Nuestra Belleza Latina” 2012 winner, Vanessa De Roide. From sharing information and content posted on and via @TeletonUSA, to joining the conversation using the hashtags #TeletonUSA and #porlosniños on Twitter, the community was instrumental in creating awareness on social platforms.
